LeiRock: What is your Government & Stage Name?
Crazy8TheGreat: Miguel Mercado/Crazy8theGreat
LeiRock: What is your music background?
Crazy8TheGreat: Well if I can think back far enough the first real hiphop record I fell in love with was "Summertime" by The Fresh Prince lol, also had the few Tupac & Biggie joints and my mother's favorite "Gin and Juice" by Snoop Dogg. But that kinda was it on the hiphop side of things because I was born in the late 80's. I really just grew up to gospel tracks and Kirk Franklin and a mixture of late 80's early 90's R&B, which is hard to tell now because this culture of hip hop music is what i live and breathe now lol.
LeiRock: When and How did you first become interested in music?
Crazy8TheGreat: This is easy lol...In '99 Eminem's first album dropped my big cousin brought it over and the lyrics and rhymes over the beats and the way Em did it had me hooked and I was and still will be forever a fan. It also made me wanna check out other artist who were capable of doing the same things. Then it was like my eyes were open to this world of music I never knew was right under my nose the whole time. It did something to me that changed me forever and me being an honors level writer in school I always chilled in the back thinking to myself "I can do that!". But I was very shy and afraid to even rhyme in front of others. In 10th grade I met a dude named Dre and he rapped so I told him I did to he laughed at me at first but then he told me to spit for him and later admitted that he thought i rapped better than him. A few months later I had my first recording session and been doing music ever since, and to this day Eminem has been my biggest influence in hip hop. I studied his music and rhyme pattern and added my own flare and personality to it which I feel makes me unique. I WILL BE HIP HOP FOREVER!
LeiRock: Do you write your own songs?
Crazy8TheGreat: Is that a trick question? lol...Of course I do! I feel like in order to give my audience my view and perspective it has to come from me. Nobody in the world can even go to levels and dimensions my brain can go to be able to write a song for me. The only opinions I will even ask someone if I do decide to ask is either its hot or its whack nobody can ever say they helped me construct a verse and I'm not trying to sound arrogant its merely the truth.
LeiRock: What is your song "Peace of Mind" about?
Crazy8TheGreat: "Peace of Mind" is a big record. The title itself is its meaning but to elaborate in detail I heard the beat and it spoke to me and the emotion of the piano said make a song that helps relieve the pressures and stresses of everyday lives. My mission for this song was to help change the life of someone who felt they had nothing left and felt all alone through the power of music and rhyme. To let them know somebody in the world had either been through what they are experiencing or feels their pain. I also dedicated this song to my little brother and personalized the second verse just for him. I believe I accomplished my mission I think I saved him from circumstances and himself and I hope I can do the same for anyone else who comes across this record. I want to give the gift of peace to anybody in need.
LeiRock: What has been the hardest challenge as an artist?
Crazy8TheGreat: The hardest challenge as a starving artist is coming from nothing and no one and trying to make a name for yourself in a industry that seems to only benefit you if you know someone in higher places or either have a lot of money as a backing. I have neither so my struggle continues and even though it seems as if doors are opening the window of time is so short in order to capitalize you would have to be in several places at once. That's not humanly possible but I will succeed that's a promise!
LeiRock: Do you have your own favorite type of music and is it any different from what you perform?
Crazy8TheGreat: I'm in tuned to all types of music and genres some I like more than others but I am open to everything that gives me a universal mind state to reach people in all places no mater of race size or color. I just happen to use hip hop as a venue that's just what I prefer but I'm in love with music as a whole. As far as what I perform...there is no difference but when I hit the stage the mood is what I make of it.
LeiRock: Do you have any websites where the public audience/readers can reach your or your music?
Crazy8TheGreat: Please check me out on these social networks www.twitter.com/Crazy8theGreat www.myspace.com/Crazy8theGreat www.facebook.com/Crazy8theGreat www.ourstage.com/profile/crazy8thegreat The youtube channel is under construction but I'm all over the net just google: Crazy8theGreat and you can get to me.
