Jukebox with LeiRock Interview | MistaMonsta

LeiRock: What is your government & stage name?
MistaMonsta: Luis Torres / Mista Monsta
LeiRock: What is your music background?
MistaMonsta: I sing, rap, write & produce. I make many different types of music, from Reggae, to Hip Hop, to even Electro.
LeiRock: When and how did you first become interested in music?
MistaMonsta: Well, I’ve always loved music because my parents would play all types of different music for me as a kid, but I first got interested in actually making music when I realized I could produce well. It took a few years to learn, but once I did and realized I was actually good at it, I wanted to expand from being just a producer, to being an artist & songwriter as well. At that point I was like, “I can do this, and I’m going to be a musician”. I was about 11 years old, so I’d say around 2001.
LeiRock: If you can remember tell us what was the first song you wrote and what was it about?
MistaMonsta: The first song I wrote was a song called “Feelin U”. It was a fast-paced dancehall song, & basically it was about seeing a chick at at party and wanting to get to know her. I was about 14 when I wrote it, but it actually wasn’t half bad hahaha. After that song, I kind of caught on quick with the songwriting skills.
LeiRock: What is the biggest challenge for you as an artist?
MistaMonsta: The biggest challenge for me is trying to come up with that “new sound”, I like to create what’s going to be on the radio, not make what already is on the radio; that’s usually my goal when writing/producing a song. It’s extremely difficult sometimes when you’re trying to be innovative and create something fresh. Another big challenge for me is topping what I’ve already done; I always love to do better and take it to the next level, even further than my previous works.
LeiRock: How would you define the word “Success”?
MistaMonsta: If you are happy with your life and with what you’ve done to get to where you are, I believe you’re successful. Even small things like if you love the job you work at; you’re successful. If you’re a housewife and have created a family; you’re successful. Picasso was successful… not because he was an artist, because there were plenty in his time, but he was successful because he LOVED what he did and was extremely great at it. When you put all your passion into something, it’s bound to be successful or get you to a place of success/happiness. Success to me is happiness with whatever it is you do in life.
LeiRock: Where do you see yourself going in the next 5 years with music?
MistaMonsta: I see myself having at least three hit albums back to back, because I plan on dropping an album every year if I could. Eventually I think I will get to a place where I’m going to strike gold, musically. If that doesn’t happen in the next five years, I see myself being a successful songwriter, with a few hits under my belt. Most of all, I see myself growing and expanding musically, venturing into new ideas and sounds.
LeiRock: Do you have any links where people can listen to your music?
MistaMonsta: My Twitter – Twitter.com/MistaMonsta My Myspace – Myspace.com/xmistamonstax
